TEXTBEFORE

The text that comes before a delimiter.

Syntax

=TEXTBEFORE(text, delimiter, [instance_num], [match_mode], [match_end], [if_not_found])

Arguments

• text: The text (or a cell containing it).
• delimiter: The text to split at.
• instance_num (optional): Which occurrence (default 1; negative counts from the end).
• match_mode (optional): 0 (default): match case. 1: ignore case.
• match_end (optional): 1: treat the end of the text as a delimiter too (default 0).
• if_not_found (optional): What to return when the delimiter is not found (default #N/A).

Example

=TEXTBEFORE("ada@example.com", "@") → "ada"
