MATCH

The position of a value in a row or column.

Syntax

=MATCH(lookup_value, lookup_array, [match_type])

Arguments

• lookup_value: What to look for.
• lookup_array: A single row or column.
• match_type (optional): 0 = exact. 1 (default) = largest value ≤ lookup (sorted ascending). -1 = smallest value ≥ lookup (sorted descending).

Example

=MATCH("Kiwi", A2:A10, 0) → Position of Kiwi, e.g. 4
